Introduction to Granular Activated Carbon: 

Granular activated carbon is typically produced from raw materials such as coconut shells, fruit shells, and coal. Through an activation process, volatile substances in the raw materials are removed, resulting in activated carbon with a porous structure, high strength, and strong adsorption capacity. The surface area of micropores accounts for over 90% of the total surface area of activated carbon. These pores can adsorb and remove organic matter, odors, pigments, and certain heavy metal ions from water at a microscopic level.

Principle of Granular Activated Carbon: 

The adsorption principle of activated carbon involves forming a balanced surface concentration on the particles, which then adsorbs organic impurities into the activated carbon particles. Higher water temperatures enhance adsorption capacity, and the pH of the water also affects adsorption performance.

Applications of Granular Activated Carbon: 

Granular activated carbon is widely used in water treatment, air purification, chemical, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage industries. Particularly in water purification, it effectively removes impurities such as residual chlorine (Cl), calcium ions (Ca), and magnesium ions (Mg) from water, improving water quality, reducing pollutant buildup in water treatment equipment, extending equipment lifespan, and lowering maintenance costs.

Test data on the efficiency of granular activated carbon in removing residual chlorine from water show that KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) media-filled filters perform exceptionally well, achieving over 98% removal efficiency, while granular activated carbon water purifiers achieve about 78.5% removal efficiency. Granular activated carbon can remove up to 23.01% of nitrate nitrogen and up to 29.86% of SO₄²⁻.
